Book Review!!!!!!!one

The Forever War by Dexter Filkins

Freaking sweet book. It’s a collection of small stories written by a New York Times journalist who was stationed out in the middle east for like 12 years. I’m sure they’re a lot of books that have been written about those conflicts and whatnot but I can highly recommend this one. Well written and illustrated by some of the finest war photos you’ll see. Really moving stuff, it actually made me appriciate stuff more, like a virtual short term mission.

It brings all the debate on the wars and politics home, makes it all personal. Cons: it’s very depressing.

I did some songs!

songs!

mad props to the musical genius aron bicskey who recorded and mixed it, and whoever left their beautiful yamaha acoustic unattended in the concert hall, it sounds sick.

LG!

I wanted to stay away from banal posts when i set this blog up but…I’m playing skate2 on the xbox on one screen, and watching rob and big on the other. I got a latte, rasberries, cherries orange juice, and some toast and homemade marmalade (with scotch whisky) on the way. Our bowlers are annihilating australia. LG, life is good.

The panda’s asleep.

Nigel Benn

Went to an audience with the world champion boxer Nigel Benn last night, and it made me think about the antediluvian* lie that drives our society; that success breeds happiness. It quite clearly doesn’t but we all strive for it anyway, thinking if we just get that relationship or that dream job or that r-type civic not just the se civic then we’ll be happy. But we all know that it won’t, so why do we keep striving? Nigel Benn had Everything, all the money all the fame all the respect all the houses and all the women and all the cars and all the drugs, everything that we value, but he hated his life so he tried to kill himself. There is no happiness in success, but we’ll strive for it anyway..

*thank you thesaurus dot com.

Man that guy’s amazing, what a hero and a legend, he kissed carl! on the face! and then tackled one of my youth who was in a sumo suit, and then another one of my youth jumped on top of him. It was surreal and beautiful to see Nigel Benn on top of steve dowling in a (no-doubt Very expensive) suit pumpling him with his world title-winning fists. To see a guy so real and up for a laugh after all he’s been through.. the man’s a hero. I asked him about chris eubank and he said he loves him and saw him about a month ago. anyway, i could go on but i’ve got a church to do..
